Hospital Management Committee (HMC)
A committee constituted for the efficient management and development of hospitals

Basis and Functioning of the HMC

Hospital Management Committees are constituted in hospitals under the control of Panchayats, for all systems of medicine, in accordance with Section 173A of the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, 1994 and the Kerala Panchayat Raj (Managing Committees for Public Health Institutions) Rules, 2010.

The term of the HMC comes to an end along with the term of the Panchayat. Whenever vacancies arise, the Panchayat shall nominate new members to fill such vacancies. HMCs are empowered to take decisions relating to the development and administrative matters of hospitals. The Committee shall meet once every three months and maintain accounts and records of income and expenditure. The accounts are subject to audit by the State Audit Department.
